Foix and its castle
Perched on its rock, the three-tower silhouette of the Château of Foix has watched over the town since the Middle Ages. The visit, enriched with staging, tells the counts of Foix and the Cathar country. Below, the lanes, the market and the cafés of Place Saint-Volusien create a perfect scene for a first date, both cultural and warm.
Montségur, Mirepoix and Cathar country
To the south-east, Montségur raises its pog, the last rocks of a Cathar epic that ended in 1244. The climb demands good shoes and rewards you with a vast panorama. Further north, Mirepoix and its medieval arcaded square, hosting a renowned market, invite you to extend the day over an Ariège speciality.
Caves and mountains
Niaux Cave preserves, in its Black Hall, exceptional Magdalenian rock paintings, visible by reservation. In the Ariège Pyrenees, hikes, high-altitude lakes and stone villages make for endless escapes. On Lyad, members in the Ariège share their favourite trails; it is up to you to find someone to walk and share stories with.
